WELCOMING PARISH

WELCOMING PARISH INITIATIVE

The purpose of the Welcoming Parish Initiative is to enable welcoming of the migrant and refugee person in the parish and the community.

WHAT IS A WELCOMING PARISH?

  1. A Welcoming Parish is aware of and assists vulnerable refugees and asylees in the community through the Draw Near Project. The Project enables the parish to inform itself of the social reality of refugees and asylees in the neighbourhood and reflects on this reality in the light of the Gospel to discern a concrete material response.
  2. A Welcoming Parish recognises, respects, reconciles with and realises its own cultural and linguistic diversity through the Welcoming Actions Program. The Program enables the parish to become a culturally competent and culturally safe.
  3. A Welcoming Parish is open understands that integral human development goes hand in hand with faith formation. This means offering spiritual, intellectual, human, and pastoral formation for a parish-school faith community discerning community refugee sponsorship, the Welcoming Parish Funding Process.

Together, these three behaviours create a fundamentally outward stance of mission by welcoming, protecting, promoting and integrating the migrants and refugee person in the parish and school faith community as well as the broader society.
